Plaza de Joe Strummer

The city of Granada, Spain will be renaming one of their town plaza’s to be named “Plaza de Joe Strummer.” Strummer mentions the city in The Clash’s song “Spanish Bombs,” and was said to have loved all of Spain. Along with the renaming of the plaza, a film will be released documenting Strummer’s travels to Spain called “I Need A Dodge.” The film is still currently in the works, but you can check out the trailer below. Long live Joe Strummer! “…Spanish songs in Granada, oh mi corazón, oh mi corazón, oh mi corazón, oh mi corazón.”

Tim Timebomb & Friends

A Message from Tim Armstrong:

“Tim Timebomb and Friends is a place for me to share with you some of my favorite songs that I’ve recorded with friends of mine. I’ve always enjoyed sharing music, whether I’m just sitting around playing acoustic guitar with my friends or breaking out old 45’s. I guess you could call me a music nerd. I like everything from Bob Dylan to the Ramones, to Jimmy Cliff to Cock Sparrer. I plan to bring together a great group of players to record covers as well as some originals. I hope you dig it and encourage you to pass them on.”

The album contains a mixture of cover versions, including Rancid covers, and original songs, including some tracks from his musical film project RocknNRoll Theater. Songs are being released daily on his YouTube channel and feature all members of Rancid as well as a few select friends. Check out all the goods at Tim Timebomb and Friends.

Be Quiet: Compiled & Mixed by the Cowboys From Sweden

The Cowboys From Sweden are finally back with their latest cinematic expression: Be Quiet. This long awaited mix takes you on an instrumental and funk-filled journey alongside the greatest French composers of all-time. Don’t let this time-warped groove machine pass you by!

DL: Be Quiet: Compiled & Mixed by the Cowboys From Sweden

“Today I am happy to present the eleventh mix by the Cowboys from Sweden!  I have been playing around with this one for nearly a year now and it features some of my favorite tracks of possibly all time (At least a few).  ”Be Quiet” (inspired by Jean-Jacques Dexter’s “Be Quite” which is not a typo) is another compilation of dark groovy tunes you’ll be sure to fall in love with.  This mix starts of a bit aggressive with a lot of heavy drums and percussion, chugging stringed orchestration and exotic instruments (there’s even a little dip into some fuzzed-out prog rock by Electric Sandwich).  After the initial build up, the mix takes you down into some dark groovy territory highly dominated by the productions of my favorites François De Roubaix and Jean-Claude Vannier.  Some spacy vocal pop tracks and some instrumentals, this is your typical moody Cowboys listening session…” Read more at Naturefilm

Doctor Nico & L’Orchestre African Fiesta

Once hailed as “Le Dieu de la Guitar” (“The God of the Guitar”) throughout Africa, Nicolas Kasanda wa Mikalay aka “Doctor Nico” was born in 1939 in Mikalayi of the Kasai province. At age 11 he wondered into a recording studio and realized his calling in life… the electric guitar. In 1963, he formed L’Orchestre African Fiesta with his brother Dechaud. They jammed together with several other African talents until the mid 1970′s. The Doctor had a heavy drinking problem which contributed to his early death in 1985. Check out Save Me below.
